Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering Technologist is responsible for a variety of mechanically related tasks, including chassis design and packaging, design and building of jigs for production, providing Design for Manufacturability feedback on new products being developed by R&D and improving mechanical processes on the production floor.

Position Requirements: 

  • Mechanical Technologist diploma or equivalent
  • Must have good problem solving skills, good communication skills and be able to work independently

Duties to include (but not limited to): 

  • Responsible for mechanical design of Vecima products which includes but is not limited to the following aspects; chassis enclosures, fasteners, mounting of boards into enclosures, labelling and silk screening, and environmental controls
  • Participate in design reviews of new products under development and provide feedback regarding the manufacturability of design choices being made
  • Design the mechanical aspects of assembly and test jigs for production
  • Design packaging for new products that accounts for the needs of R&D, sales, inventory, packaging and shipping groups while accommodating the abilities of the packaging suppliers
  • Provide technical support to other departments and suppliers for issues that need to be escalated beyond the department that owns the responsibility for the issue
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings
  • Create and maintain procedures and work instructions where the level of technical understanding required to do the work exceeds that of the document staff. Where the document staff has adequate technical understanding, the Mechanical Engineering Technologist will provide direction to the document staff and support their efforts to create and maintain these procedures and work instructions
  • Investigate problems and determine solutions independently. Create ECO’s to document the changes required to address the problem
  • Follow safety precautions and guidelines when working with hazardous materials, heavy loads, electrical circuits, equipment, etc.
  • Conform to Electrostatic Discharge Control (ESD) procedures
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to Vecima’s products, process and test fixtures
